Welcome to A Country Place NW. We offer a unique line of handcrafted folk art pieces. Each piece is a hand painted original. Many of my pieces are one of a kind, made from wood found in thrift stores and garage sales. I have used old bowls, canes, bats, fishing floats, oars, turnings and plates to create really fun folk art Santas, snowmen, Uncle Sam or whatever else crossed my mind. I consider this my version of recycling and really enjoy trying to figure out how to use each new piece of wood.
I have been painting for 28 years and thoroughly enjoy what I do. I began taking painting lessons shortly after my youngest daughter was born in 1983. I still take lessons. They are a huge inspiration for my work and really great inexpensive therapy.
I started selling my work at Portland Saturday Market 26 years ago and am proud to be a member of a great community of artists. Much of my inspiration comes from customers who ask, could you, would you, or have you ever thought of this. If you have an idea, let me know.
